Time for art to take center stage at AMSA

Student artwork will be the showcase of AMSA’s Arts Night.

In a science- and technology-focused school, the chance to honor art and music is a breath of fresh air.

For AMSA, that chance comes Wednesday during the school’s Arts Night. Hallways will be decorated with student artwork and music will be performed by AMSA’s chorus, jazz band, and a capella group.

“It’s a time for us to show what the art students can really do,” art teacher Robin Seeran said.

Art created by students of all grades will be exhibited from 6-8:30 p.m., with guests browsing the works, similar to the atmosphere of a gallery. To complement the art, students from the school’s musical clubs will perform.

“It’s a common thing for high schools to have a rotating gallery in a specific space,” Ms. Seeran said. “[AMSA] just has a weird facility here so it’s not easy to keep work up for everyone to see, something Arts Night is good for.”

Arts Night has grown over the past three years, with help from Friends of Arts and Music Education (FAME) and the introduction of a silent auction and food from vendors.

Senior Joshua Galarza has enjoyed taking several art classes over the years at AMSA and he has been involved in making Arts Night a school tradition.

“It’s been great so far, especially now because we’re starting to add new things to make the experience even better than last year,” Josh said.

Visitors should start the night in the upper school cafeteria.
