Turn on Far Cry 4 and prepare to stay a while

Far Cry 4 is a worthy follow-up to its predecessor after a two-year wait.

Far Cry 3, released at the end of 2012, left many gamers in a terrible situation—they couldn’t put down their controllers. Developer Ubisoft Montreal has done the same thing two years later with the release of Far Cry 4.

Far Cry 4 is one heck of a ride for gamers worldwide. Right from the start of this first-person shooter, the player is faced with heart-pounding action.

The main character, Ajay Ghale, is traveling to his homeland, Kyrat, to spread his mother’s ashes at a place called Lakshmana. While traveling, his bus is assaulted by Indian mercenaries, and the scene becomes a skirmish between secret passengers on the bus and the mercenaries.

Shortly afterward, the leader is killed by the person who hired him, Pagan Min, for killing almost everybody on the bus.

Later, after being captured, Pagan proceeds to tell you that he knows your mother, which leaves the player questioning who the man is, why he knows your mother, and the reason why you are here.

After briefly escaping, you meet up with the leader of a group that opposes Pagan and is considered a terrorist group, the Golden Path.

The mystery and action are not all that is appealing in Far Cry 4. The graphics, especially on next-gen consoles (Playstation 4, Xbox One), are absolutely stunning. It is clear that every detail in the enormous open world of Kyrat, located next to the majestic Himalayas, was made carefully by the developers at Ubisoft Montreal.

In addition to the graphics, the quality of multiplayer mode has vastly improved. A great implement to the story mode is that you can play it with your friends. The limited edition of the game available for purchase has extra codes to share with your friends who do not own the game.

Developers also have created an amazing create-your-own-map function. You can create your own playable world in which you and your friends can play, or upload it for the world to play.

Among the only negatives is that game mechanics can be lacking at certain points. What is obvious to gamers who have previously played Far Cry 3 is that Ubisoft did a poor job of updating the weapon feel.

The weapon feel for next-gen consoles can have a bit of latency, making your analog stick feel sticky at times.

Overall, however, this new first-person shooter deserves whatever awards come its way and it should leave any gamer feeling satisfied with the experience.
