Varsity boys lose a tough one

MENDON—AMSA’s varsity boys basketball team lost 59-51 to Bethany Christian on Friday, the Eagles’ fourth straight defeat.

“We’re in a position where there’s only one way to go, and that’s up,” AMSA coach George Albuquerque said.

It was a tough loss for AMSA (5-6), which defeated Bethany Christian 55-41 on Dec. 19. The Eagles were done in by John Fugere, who scored 28 points and went 7-for-10 behind the 3-point line.

AMSA was led by junior power forward Chris Reynolds, who scored 18 points.

“It was a breakout game for him,” Mr. Albuquerque said. “He was dominant. If he puts in that type of performance the rest of the season, we’ll be all right.”

Mustafa Mwangi and Zach Meyer added 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Eagles.
